Intro to me...

Hi, I'm Sarah... I’ve been thinking about starting a blog for a long time. The thing that has kept me from doing so is that I feel like it’s pretty presumptuous of me to think that anyone would care to read what I have to write. I’ve finally decided to go ahead anyway, because I like to write and I know at least my mom will enjoy reading it! I’m also hoping it will improve my vocabulary and writing skills, which I believe have rapidly declined in the last few years. So, here goes… my first blog, which will really just be an introduction to me.

I am a recent transplant to Michigan. Although I was born here, I didn’t live here long enough to consider it home until now. I love summer here - the entire 2 weeks is amazing! Fall is beautiful. Winter is also beautiful, but it lasts way too long! Spring is great, because it means winter is over, and the renewal of budding trees and plants popping up through the ground is refreshing and heart-warming. But, if it weren’t for the stupid long winter, I wouldn’t need that, so it’s really not worth it. Before I moved to Michigan, I spent 10 years in the Big D – Dallas, TX. Although I hated the weather most of the year (summers are too hot and humid, winters are windy and not warm enough), I did love the culture and the vast variety of food options (and some amazing friends, who I miss dearly). Truly, I am a Northern California girl at heart – grew up there, can't wait to move back. It’s still my favorite place on earth.

I am wife to the most amazing man in the world – seriously, he is! I’m also a step-mom to two fantastic teenage girls. I love this life. I’m not thrilled with all the teenage drama, but I still love this life. I believe that being a step-mom has been the most trying and the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I’m sure that regular moms feel the same way – but I know that step-mothering adds a whole new dynamic to it!

I love food. I love to cook, I love to eat, I love to talk about food. You know how people tend to congregate in the kitchen? I love that! I believe the best talks are always over a good meal – whether it’s eating it or preparing it. I love to cook with people. My sister Jean and my niece Pam are my favorite co-cooks – we always have fun together. I feel most special when I can prepare a meal for someone and they love it. I love to cook for my brother-in-law, Brad! He’s the most appreciative eater I’ve ever met. There’s a good chance most of this blog will revolve around food.

I also happen to be a follower of Christ. I don’t always do a good job of following, but I do believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he came to this earth to teach us how to live better. I hate the word religion, and all the connotations that come with it. I also hate most of the connotations that come with the word Christian. I think religious and Christian people have done a whole lot more harm to this world than they have done good. But, just because people did a poor job of following Jesus doesn’t make Him not worth following! You’ll see more about this later too…

So, that's my first blog... stay tuned for more :)
